The Gender Transformative Approach for Savings and Internal Lending Communities (GTA4SILC)

Summary

Comparing the relative impact of programs aimed at increasing women's financial access and programs that address gender norms and male engagement in addition to financial services in Liberia: The Gender Transformative Approach for Savings and Internal Lending Communities (GTA4SILC) Study

In partnership with Catholic Relief Services, Dr. Gupta and her team (Drs. Kate Rogers, Anjalee Kohli) along with PhD students, Ms Samantha Kanselaar and Cheyu (Sarah) Zhang, are leading a quasi-experimental mixed methods study is to examine the impact of integrating a gender-transformative approach into a rural savings and loan program on gender equitable attitudes and experience of intimate partner violence (IPV) among men and women in rural Liberia. Unique to this intervention study is the local partnership with the Liberian Ministry of Gender, who is implementing the intervention study. The baseline study was conducted in November 2024. Endline is slated to take place in May 2026.

Due to the stop work order for USAID, we are actively seeking funds to support the ongoing savings and loan and gender equity programming. The team in Liberia works tirelessly in running the savings and loans and gender groups. We ae currently at risk for not being able to continue delivering the intervention. The research evaluating our programming is also at risk of being terminated.
